Well. Despite the things that I think work well, my own opinion is that college and curricular structure can impede new developments. With print and electronic media in separate departments, under separate directors, it's difficult to see where multimedia courses should be taught. Team teaching brings challenges in terms of teaching loads, scheduling, etc.
Also, it just takes time to learn to do things in a new way. It's easy to focus SO much on the technology itself that basics (good writing, critical thinking, how to deal with people) get sidelined, when in fact some basics don't change.
