We need more training. Most of our faculty are experienced professionals but we left newsrooms 5, 10, 20 years ago. We have little experience with modern newsgathering and reporting techniques.
We need more communication with the outside world. We're an insular department -- we don't even talk to the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department two buildings away.
We need more equipment and our faculty members need to learn how to use it and how to tell stories in new ways.
We have difficulty making decisions and moving forward. We have the same discussions for years.
